CHINA EARTHQUAKE CRISIS
|
 |
When the May 12 earthquake hit, the people of Sichuan province in Western China had simply been going about business as usual. Suddenly their lives and world were turned upside down. This was the strongest earthquake to hit China since the Tangshan earthquake killed at least 240,000 people in 1976.
At the time of writing, almost 70,000 people have died, with 374,000 injured. There are also nearly 18,000 people still listed as missing. At least 4.8 million people have lost their homes, though that figure may be as high as 11 million.
MercyWorks has sent an assessment team to the affected area and will be sending subsiquent teams in the coming months. Please contact us at mercy@ywamtyler.org or call us at 1.866.77MERCY for more information.
We are also raising funds to see homes rebuilt and health and sanitation restored. There are 15 million people who live in the earthquake zone; please pray with us that all will be reached.
